About This Tour This tour combines an Alcatraz Day Tour (including audio phones) with a 3-½ hour Muir Woods tour. For information on the Alcatraz segment of this combination tour, please see the Alcatraz Day tour description.

The Muir Woods Tour is conducted in modern, comfortable tour vans, and visits Muir Woods National Monument, as well as the art colony of Sausalito. The combination tour includes pick up at most downtown San Francisco hotels and drop off at Pier 33 in time to pick up your Alcatraz Tickets and tour Alcatraz in the morning.
The Muir Woods segment of the “combo” tour typically begins when the Muir Woods tour van meets you at Pier 33 upon your return from Alcatraz. In some cases, particularly in the busy summer season, scheduling constraints may dictate that the Muir Woods segment is in the morning, in which case you will be returned to Pier 33 in time to pick up your Alcatraz tickets and see Alcatraz in the afternoon.
The Muir Woods tour “officially” begins on Fisherman's Wharf and initially heads west through the heavily forested Presidio, past the old Crissy Fields military airport, which has been restored to a tidal lagoon, beach and bird nesting area, and continues across the Golden Gate Bridge, northward to Muir Woods. You will be amazed at the picturesque rural vistas so close to San Francisco.
The drive from San Francisco to Muir Woods takes about 35 minutes. You will have an hour to relax and stroll through the redwoods, along the stream, perhaps seeing the Stellar Jays, Black Tailed Deer, or spawning Pacific Salmon.
Muir Woods is a virgin stand of Coast Redwoods - among the oldest and tallest trees on earth. Nothing can compare with the sense of grandeur and majesty you will feel as you walk under the canopy of trees thousands of years old.
Next, it's on to Sausalito! A short distance from Muir Woods, with a stunning view of San Francisco across the Bay, is Sausalito - an art colony whose waterfront and hillside homes may remind you of a village on the Italian Riviera. You'll have ½ an hour for browsing the delightful shops or grabbing a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants, or you may walk along the shore and watch the multitude of sailboats gracefully swooping across the Bay.
If you wish to spend more time in Sausalito, you can take the commuter ferry back to either Fisherman's Wharf or the Ferry Terminal at the end of Market Street. For those who continue on with the tour, your guide will take you back across the Golden Gate Bridge and deliver you to your hotel - ready for more fun in this wonderful City by the Bay!
